This government grant is designed to help individuals get or stay in work with the right support for their needs. Each year, the Access to Work scheme can award up to £66,000 in workplace support. We are uniquely skilled to assess, diagnose, and understand strengths and difficulties for the 1 in 5 children and adults living with neurodevelopmental conditions. I always suggest that if you are looking for the diagnosis to be accepted by any service, GP, MH services, psychology, etc, that you discuss my credentials with them. This will help you ascertain if they will accept it before you commit to a professional autism assessment with me.
And because of this long-awaited recognition, no one needs to feel embarrassed to be different or raise their hand for help. Our service embodies the therapeutic desire to ‘become the helping hand you needed’. So hiring and positive action across the employment of neurodiverse talent is not only the right thing to do to promote inclusion – it’s also an intelligent business decision that provides compelling competitive advantages. Paul Wilson from the Wellbeing team then outlined how neurodiversity was being prioritised as one of the main themes emerging in the new Cardiff University strategy.



We will spotlight key issues including how to create a physically inclusive working environment and implement changes of all sizes to improve the working lives of neurodivergent colleagues. To ensure that the experiences were as up to date as possible, we focused on individuals who had received neurodivergent assessments and diagnosis within the previous year. Working with the Welsh Government’s neurodivergence and learning disabilities team, we explored how to support those awaiting a neurodivergence referral or assessment. Our approach to writing about neurodiversity is not to state what terminology or language is right or wrong, but to raise awareness and understanding. It is important to respect personal preference when referring to individuals or groups and we always ask how they would prefer to be described. Contextual information where appropriate For child and adolescent assessments, we may gather information from school or other caregivers using detailed, neuroaffirming questionnaires.

Creative potential and well being can be improved by embracing neurodiversity as a natural Neurodiversity Assessment form of human diversity. The EQ test is often used to explore social-emotional awareness and is helpful for identifying traits linked to autism or other neurodivergent profiles. Referrals for Neurodevelopmental assessments are assessed and triaged by clinicians in the Single Point of Access (SPOA). Set up by Cardiff resident Dan St Clair , the CIC can provide workshops teaching the basics of music theory to help understand musical terms, music production, DJing and writing lyrics. I became a Senior Lecturer at the University of South Wales in 2015 and led several programmes within the psychology department, before moving to Cardiff University in August 2018 to join the Healthcare Sciences, Occupational Therapy team. As a community service, we have a number of bases across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. At Mirus, we are keen to promote neurodiversity and it’s one of the main reasons we created the role of Mirus Representatives. A Mirus Representative is someone who represents the views of the people supported by us in each area. At the event, we spoke about some of the fantastic projects people supported by Mirus have been involved in, such as taking part in Pride Cymru’s largest parade in 2023. In support of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, Cardiff Council held an event called ‘Neurodivergent Friendly Cardiff’ to begin the conversation about how to make Cardiff a more neuro-inclusive city.
GPs and other professionals struggle with limited time and resources, managing complex information gathering processes and administrative burdens. Assessors face constraints in providing support due to overwhelming demand for diagnostic assessments. The resources are aimed at increasing the knowledge, skills, understanding of neurodivergence and practical tools for parents/carers of neurodivergent people.
